chapter 21

He was walking hastily to his nine-to-five, going haphazardly down the filthy sidewalk. He stopped suddenly when he saw himself in the reflection of a shop window. He was wearing a black suit, but the white shirt underneath was covered in blood. He figured he’d stop off at his apartment on the way there; he started to head up the stairs of his apartment building. He saw light slithering under his door; he pulled his gun from his holster and slowly opened his door.
A tall dark figure stood in the middle of his dingy apartment “Oh come on, get out of here. It’s too early to deal with this shit. Get out of my apartment.” He said, waving his gun around casually “I have something to tell you, sir” the man said in a voice that seemed wholly unearthly “I’m already late for work I came here to clean myself up, job went badly you understand, right?” he said changing his shirt “but sir I-“”listen I’m really busy but I’m sure you have life-changing revelations that will changes the way I look at every little piece of shit in this city but right now I’m two hours late so tell me when I get back, K?” he said while slipping on his blazer, not bothering to hear his answer as he strolled out the door, shutting it behind him, reeking of aftershave and looking like an asshole.
