chapter 26

They stopped the car outside that old familiar alley, the thunder had become still as death. They walked slowly by the light of the trash can fires. Tonight was the night Sid was to tell that man that his debt was paid in full. The contract had been fulfilled, everyone dead, his mess has been cleaned. He couldn't see Lunchbox anymore, but he could hear his footsteps. They trudged along for what seemed like hours going deeper and deeper into this little hidden nook filled with shifty eyes and hidden hands. Finally he saw him, waiting by his usual trash can fire at the end of the alley. His beard hung down heavily as the fire illuminated his bony face.
"The debt is paid" Sid said calmly "Every single man responsible for starting this company and, in turn, this town is dead." The shabby man looked up "We both know that's not true Sidney." His voice somehow made the alley darker, all they could see was the fire. "There is one man left, now isn't there Sidney?" He asked, knowing full well the answer. Sid got cross rather quickly "Don't do this Lemmy, you know damn well you took part as well." They were glaring into each others eyes now with a kind of hate you can taste in the air.
Sid walked quickly toward the man, kicking over the trash can, Lemmy went to throw a punch hitting Sid square in the jaw. Sid threw his elbow into Lemmy's eye, punching him in the stomach with his other arm. Lemmy took out a rather sharp knife and started to slash at Sid, who managed to dodge most of them. A rather quick slash went across Sid's face making him reel back for a moment. Lemmy lunged forward with his knife in hand, but Sid stepped out of the way, grabbed his hand, and made him stab himself. The pain cause Lemmy to let go of his knife, which let Sid stab him repeatedly. After Sid was truly sure the man was dead he walked away putting the knife in the trash can.

chapter 25

"Yeah I'm about done." Lunchbox said calmly stepping up off the cop. "Follow me and put your hands behind your back so it looks like I'm escorting you back out on the streets." Sid instructed, Lunchbox followed closely trying to look as convincing as possible. Everyone at the precinct looked nervous as they made their way to the elevator. "This is humiliating." Lunchbox muttered "Deal with it we're almost there." Sid said annoyed "At least you aren't dressed like the enemy." It seemed this floor was mostly just holding cells and interrogation rooms. They finally reached the elevator and they quickly pressed the "close door" button. Lunchbox was getting more shaken as the numbers counted down.
By the time they had reached the first floor Lunchbox had tensed up completely. They walked up to the front desk, "I'm signing out this man and I need his possessions back." Sid said calm and official. "alright, what's his name?" the lowly desk-worker asked "Sid" "Just Sid?" The desk-worker raised an eyebrow as if he had the right to as he started searching. He looked through boxes for what seemed to be hours, but were probably only a few minutes until he came back with a small cardboard box "Here it is, sir." Sid opened the box, taking back his gun, wallet, cigarettes and company pen.
They quickly left out the front door, Sid stole a police car and started driving. "So did you ever talk?" Lunchbox asked after a while "Not a word." Sid replied calmly "I figured they had found out considering you were in there too." "Nah, man, I forgot to take my meds and started killing people" Lunchbox stated matter-of-factly. The city was moving by faster than Sid was accustomed to, the sun was hidden by thick clouds which held thicker thunder. "We have a man to see" Sid stated after a long pause "we need to pick up some sandwiches."
