chapter 10

“We actually do have an opening available, I’ll lead you to your interviewer” the woman got up from the desk and started walking toward the elevator that sat patiently in the main lobby, Sid followed close behind. The woman quickly pressed the “up” button and waited at the doors, she hummed a little tune while they waited. “Ding!” the elevator opened and they both stepped inside, shitty elevator music played in the background, it was the kind of music he expected played in the heads of the absent minded. “Right this way sir” she said once the doors opened again on the third floor “it’s just through here” he took the opportunity to take in the sights, as horrid as they are, the walls were white as bones and the ground was as black as Sarah Palin’s soul. He shuddered at the feeling of being inside an office again.
“Here we are sir” she said then stepped aside to let him walk through the open door, which closed behind him. “Ah, you must be Sid, my name is harry” the man sitting behind a fancy desk said warmly, “please take a seat, let’s begin” Sid walked slowly over to the chair opposite harry, sat down and folded his hands. “I see you’re dressed for the occasion” Sid looked at himself slowly realizing he had been wearing a very fancy suit the entire time “er…yes, yes I am”. “So” the man said abruptly “shall we begin?” “Oh by all means” Sid said sarcastically.
“Question number one” harry began “what do you think you can contribute to the Globo-chem team?” Sid thought for a second “I have bi-pedal movement and both arms intact, which I think will come in handy for this work environment” Sid thought he might’ve laid the sarcasm on a little thick with that one. “Very good” harry continued “where do you see yourself in ten years?” He didn’t even have to think about this question “I have no doubt I’ll be in the ground by then.” “I find your honesty refreshing Sid, frankly too many people try to say the right thing in this interview. Makes me sick” harry honestly looked impressed. “Last question” harry said “when can you start?”
